The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is building a global Surge Response Roster of highly qualified Logistics in Emergencies Specialists ready for rapid deployment to humanitarian crises around the world. Specialists selected for the roster will play a critical role in ensuring the efficient, timely, and accountable delivery of essential supplies and services to crisis-affected populations. This roster represents an opportunity to contribute directly to life-saving operations that protect the health, dignity and rights of women, girls and young people in the most challenging environments. UNFPA is the UN’s agency for sexual and reproductive health. It works in over 150 countries to achieve three transformative goals: ending unmet need for family planning, ending preventable maternal death, and ending gender-based violence and harmful practices by 2030. What UNFPA Offers The opportunity to make a direct, life-saving impact during humanitarian emergencies. Short-term surge deployments (3–6 months) as part of UNFPA’s global humanitarian response. A platform to use advanced logistics skills in complex, fast-moving crises. Key Responsibilities During Deployment Supply Chain Coordination & Operations Support logistics operations for UNFPA supplies in close coordination with the Country Office (CO) operations team. Update and implement the Logistics Concept of Operations, including importation channels, corridors, warehousing hubs and distribution networks. Oversee the movement of supplies into affected areas, ensuring last-mile assurance, receipt, inspection and onward distribution. Maintain visibility of procurement plans in coordination with operations, procurement and emergency response teams. Partnerships & Humanitarian Coordination Engage effectively with humanitarian partners, including UN agencies and health sector stakeholders. Coordinate with the Logistics and Health Clusters to identify gaps, align services, and leverage shared resources. Support compliance with national importation regulations, OCHA guidance and UNCT procedures. Warehousing, Stock Management & Quality Control Identify and manage suitable warehousing facilities and transport providers. Establish and maintain stock management systems, including documentation, tracking tools, bin cards and expiry monitoring. Conduct assessments of implementing partners and health facilities to ensure proper storage conditions and propose mitigation or capacity-building when required. Technical Guidance & Reporting Provide logistics inputs for financial proposals, including lead-times, product valuations, clearance costs and supply management needs. Establish monitoring and reporting mechanisms to deliver timely information to stakeholders. Lead on-the-job training for CO and warehouse staff on WHO Good Storage and Distribution Practices, including cold-chain handling. Support fleet management, daily movement planning and logistics needs for UNFPA guesthouses or offices. What UNFPA Is Looking For Qualifications & Experience Advanced degree in logistics management or related field; a first degree with substantial experience may be accepted. 5–7 years of field experience in emergency settings. Proven experience managing medical supplies in emergencies (required). Certification in humanitarian medical logistics (advantage). Experience with UN systems, INGOs, and especially UNFPA or the Logistics Cluster (advantage). Skills & Competencies Strong leadership, coordination and communication skills. Ability to work under pressure in high-stress environments. Solid knowledge of humanitarian response mechanisms. Proficiency in English; additional UN languages highly desirable. Assessment Process Candidates will undergo a comprehensive, multi-stage evaluation: Application Review – Assessment of CV, application form and supporting statement. Technical & Soft Skills Test – Evaluation of logistics expertise and problem-solving abilities, plus soft-skills questions. Video Interview – A recorded interview assessing behavioral and technical competencies. Reference Checks – Verification of professional experience and suitability for surge deployment. Successful candidates will be added to UNFPA’s Surge Response Roster and contacted when deployment opportunities matching their profile arise.
