UNICEF is Hiring a Game Changers Coalition Programme Manager Consultant (Remote, 12 Months)
globalsouthopportunities.com

Application Deadline

March 10, 2026

Description

UNICEF’s Office of Innovation is recruiting a Programme Manager Consultant to support the Game Changers Coalition (GCC)—a global initiative designed to close gender gaps in digital skills and transform the video gaming industry for adolescent girls. This is a 12-month, full-time consultancy, remote-based, with coordination anchored in Stockholm, Sweden. This role offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of gender equality, youth empowerment, innovation, and the gaming industry, while contributing to UNICEF’s mission in over 190 countries. About UNICEF’s Office of Innovation UNICEF has a long-standing history of innovation for children, using new technologies, partnerships, and business models to deliver scalable impact. The Office of Innovation operates as a creative and agile hub within UNICEF, combining startup thinking with global development expertise. Its work focuses on: Connecting underserved communities, especially youth, to decision-makers Applying entrepreneurial approaches in traditionally risk-averse environments Building new public–private–academic partnerships to deliver results faster and at scale The team identifies, prototypes, and scales solutions that improve children’s lives—ranging from early-stage investments through the UNICEF Venture Fund to national-scale implementations across multiple countries. The Game Changers Coalition: Context and Vision The Game Changers Coalition is an innovative, first-of-its-kind collaboration between UNICEF and the global gaming industry. Its goal is to ensure that adolescent girls are represented, skilled, safe, and successful in the gaming ecosystem. While girls represent nearly half of all gamers worldwide, they remain significantly underrepresented in gaming careers and storytelling. GCC builds on UNICEF’s Skills4Girls portfolio to bridge this gap by equipping girls with the skills, tools, and opportunities to become coders, designers, creators, and leaders within the industry. The initiative works across 20 UNICEF country offices, in collaboration with gaming studios, publishers, mentors, and communities, integrating STEM and STEAM education with real-world industry engagement. Role Overview: Programme Manager Consultant The Programme Manager Consultant will serve as the focal point for the Game Changers Coalition within the Office of Innovation. The role focuses on programme coordination, technical excellence, and timely delivery across multiple regions and stakeholders. The consultant will: Manage and accelerate GCC implementation as an Office of Innovation initiative Coordinate with internal teams, including Gender Programme Group, RITEC, and Fundoo Align UNICEF headquarters, country offices, and external partners Provide targeted technical support on gender equality and digital skills development Maintain oversight of multiple workstreams while ensuring effective communication This role is ideal for professionals experienced in complex, multi-country programmes who thrive in collaborative and innovative environments. Required Qualifications and Experience Education Master’s degree or higher in International Development, International Relations, Gender Studies, or a related field A first university degree with two additional years of experience may be accepted Experience Minimum 7 years of professional experience in multi-country or multi-stakeholder programmes Proven experience in gender equality and girls-centered programming Strong technical writing, research, and communication skills Knowledge of or experience with the video gaming industry is an advantage Fluency in English is required Experience in the UN system, humanitarian or fragile settings, and knowledge of another UN language are considered assets. Travel and Contract Details The consultancy includes limited travel, such as: Germany (Cologne) for a RITEC-GCC event One GCC implementation country (e.g., Bolivia, Bangladesh, or Indonesia) Stockholm for coordination with the Office of Innovation team Payment is deliverable-based, and applicants must submit a financial proposal covering professional fees, travel, and related costs. Applications without a financial proposal will not be considered. How to Apply Contract Type: Consultant Duration: 12 months (Full-time) Location: Remote (Duty station: Stockholm, Sweden) Job Number: 590786 Deadline: 17 February 2026 (CET) UNICEF strongly encourages applications from diverse backgrounds and is committed to creating an inclusive, equitable, and safe workplace for all. This consultancy represents a powerful opportunity to help reshape the future of gaming—by empowering girls to design, code, and lead the digital worlds they already love.
