UNICEF invites students and recent graduates to apply for paid internship in Japan The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has announced applications for its Public Partnerships Intern position based in Tokyo, Japan, offering students and recent graduates an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in international development, resource mobilization and public partnerships. The internship will be hosted by UNICEF’s Public Partnerships and Resource Mobilization (PPR) Asia-Pacific Pillar Office and is scheduled to run between September 2026 and August 2027 for a period of three to six months. Applications are open until 26 July 2026. About the internship The internship is designed to provide participants with practical experience working within UNICEF and the wider United Nations system while supporting partnerships with the Government of Japan. Under the supervision of the Public Partnership Manager, interns will contribute to research, communications, donor engagement and administrative activities that support UNICEF’s mission of improving the lives of children worldwide. The position is based in Tokyo, with a hybrid working arrangement combining office-based and remote work. Key responsibilities Successful interns will support a variety of activities, including: Reviewing and analysing donor proposals and project reports submitted by UNICEF Country Offices. Conducting research and analysis on Japan’s Official Development Assistance (ODA) for children. Translating reports, presentations and official documents between English and Japanese. Supporting the development of communication materials, including press releases, videos and human-interest stories. Assisting with advocacy campaigns by gathering and organising information for government counterparts and media. Updating and maintaining the Tokyo office’s website. Providing logistical and administrative support for meetings, workshops and advocacy events. Performing additional duties assigned by the supervisor. Internship benefits Selected interns will receive several benefits, including: A daily stipend of JPY 5,500, inclusive of transportation costs. Practical work experience within UNICEF and the United Nations system. Professional mentorship from experienced UNICEF staff. Exposure to international development, humanitarian assistance and public partnership initiatives. Opportunities to strengthen research, communication and project management skills. Flexible hybrid work arrangements, subject to agreement with the office. Eligibility requirements Applicants must meet the following criteria: Be currently enrolled in a university or graduate school, or have graduated within the past two years. Be available to work four to five days per week for three to six months. Be able to work according to Japan Standard Time (JST). Demonstrate an interest in child rights and international development. Possess excellent written and spoken English and Japanese language skills. Be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Preferred qualifications UNICEF also encourages applications from candidates with experience or knowledge in: International cooperation and humanitarian assistance. Project formulation and report writing. Translation of communication materials. Public relations and event management. Website management. Video editing. Microsoft Forms and Power BI. Data analysis and information management. Areas of work Interns will gain exposure to UNICEF programmes supporting: Child rights. Education. Health. Nutrition. Water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH). Child protection. Gender equality. Climate change. Humanitarian and development assistance.
