The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) has announced a new international consultancy opportunity for experienced Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) professionals seeking to contribute to results-driven development work at the global level. The Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist will contribute directly to the enhancement of UNIDO’s RBM systems and monitoring frameworks. This includes supporting the review of institutional results frameworks, improving performance data collection processes, and ensuring that monitoring tools align with updated organizational standards. The role is positioned within UNIDO’s Directorate of Strategic Planning, Programming and Policy, which plays a central role in shaping institutional strategy, reporting systems, and policy coherence across the organization. Key Responsibilities of the Consultancy The consultant will be expected to provide technical expertise and analytical support across several core areas of UNIDO’s monitoring and reporting systems. 1. Results-Based Management and M&E System Review A key responsibility includes providing expert input into the ongoing review of UNIDO’s Integrated Results and Performance Framework (IRPF). The specialist will help assess how results are currently tracked and reported and propose improvements to strengthen accountability and learning. 2. Design of RBM Innovation Initiatives The consultancy also includes co-leading the design and implementation of UNIDO’s first RBM Award initiative. This activity aims to identify and showcase good practices in monitoring and evaluation across projects, programmes, and country-level interventions. 3. Process Mapping and System Improvement The M&E Specialist will support a comprehensive mapping of how performance and results data are collected across the organization. This involves identifying gaps, inefficiencies, and opportunities for harmonization, while recommending practical improvements to strengthen institutional systems. 4. Corporate Reporting and Analytical Support The role requires contributing to key UNIDO corporate reports, including the Annual Report and Programme and Budgets documentation. The consultant will provide analytical input and synthesize results data to support strategic reporting at senior management level. 5. Gender-Responsive Monitoring and Evaluation A strong emphasis is placed on integrating gender equality considerations into monitoring systems. The consultant will support the incorporation of gender indicators and sex-disaggregated data into reporting frameworks, aligning with UNIDO’s broader commitment to inclusive development. Required Qualifications and Experience UNIDO is seeking highly qualified professionals with a strong background in international development and evaluation. Applicants are expected to hold an advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in fields such as Economics, Engineering, Environmental Management, or other disciplines relevant to UNIDO’s mandate. A minimum of seven years of professional experience is required, including at least three years at the international level. Candidates must demonstrate: Strong expertise in Monitoring and Evaluation systems Experience in Results-Based Management frameworks Proven background in technical cooperation or development programming Experience working with international organizations, preferably within the UN system Demonstrated commitment to gender equality and women’s empowerment Strong stakeholder engagement and cross-functional collaboration skills Fluency in English is required, and knowledge of additional UN languages is considered an advantage.
