UCL is seeking a Programme Manager (Operations) to lead the operational delivery of high-profile, multi-year research and policy programmes that influence global debates on green industrial strategy, new economic thinking, and state capacity. Role Overview The Programme Manager (Operations) plays a central leadership role in ensuring the effective delivery of a complex and ambitious portfolio of work within the Office of Professor Mariana Mazzucato. Working closely with Professor Mazzucato and the wider team, the postholder will oversee operational systems, manage cross-functional teams, and support strategic decision-making across research and policy initiatives. This role combines strategic programme coordination with hands-on operational leadership. The successful candidate will be responsible for strengthening systems, workflows, and processes that enable excellence in project delivery, grant management, and team performance within a fast-paced, high-impact environment. Key Responsibilities Programme and Operational Leadership Lead the operational delivery of multiple, high-profile research and policy programmes Coordinate a diverse portfolio of projects spanning research, policy engagement, and international partnerships Develop and implement robust systems and processes to support programme and grant delivery Ensure operational priorities are aligned with strategic objectives Team Leadership and Coordination Lead and support a cross-functional and interdisciplinary team Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performance working culture Provide clear direction, guidance, and support to team members Enable effective communication and coordination across the Office Strategic Planning and Decision Support Support senior leadership with strategic planning and prioritisation Anticipate operational needs and risks to enable high-impact delivery Optimise schedules, workflows, and resource allocation Deputise for senior leadership when required Financial and Grant Management Oversee financial planning, monitoring, and reporting across programmes Ensure compliance with funder, institutional, and regulatory requirements Support the development of strong funding proposals and grant reports Maintain high standards of accuracy, accountability, and transparency Stakeholder Engagement Act as a key interface with: Senior internal stakeholders Funders and partners External collaborators and policy audiences Ensure timely information flow and effective coordination across stakeholders About the Ideal Candidate The successful candidate will be a strategic, solutions-focused professional with a strong track record in programme and operational management.
