The University of Bonn’s Bonn Center for Reconciliation Studies has announced twelve funded Research Associate (65%) positions within the DFG Research Training Group 3125 “Reconciliation and its Equivalents in a Transcultural Comparison.” The positions will begin on 1 February 2027 and are offered on a fixed-term contract until 31 January 2031 in accordance with the German Academic Fixed-Term Contract Act (WissZeitVG). Research Training Group Focus The DFG Research Training Group 3125 investigates concepts, strategies, and practices of reconciliation and conflict transformation from a transcultural and interdisciplinary perspective. The research programme examines reconciliation processes across different historical periods and cultural contexts, applying both: • Synchronic comparative analysis, exploring concepts across societies at similar points in time. • Diachronic comparative analysis, analysing developments and transformations over different historical periods. The initiative brings together researchers from diverse academic backgrounds to examine how societies respond to conflict, violence, division, and efforts towards rebuilding relationships. Doctoral Research Opportunities The selected Research Associates will undertake doctoral research projects related to the thematic scope of the Research Training Group. Key responsibilities include: • Writing a doctoral dissertation on a topic connected to reconciliation and its equivalents. • Participating actively in the Research Training Group’s academic activities. • Engaging in the structured doctoral study and qualification programme. • Contributing to interdisciplinary discussions and collaborative research activities.
