The University of South Africa (University of South Africa), widely known as UNISA, is recognised as the only publicly funded higher education institution in South Africa dedicated exclusively to distance education. As a comprehensive open and distance learning university, it offers a wide range of academic and career-oriented programmes designed to support accessible higher education across multiple disciplines. Within this mandate, UNISA is inviting applications for multiple academic positions in its Graduate School of Business Leadership (SBL), located at its Midrand campus. About the Graduate School of Business Leadership (SBL) The Graduate School of Business Leadership (SBL) operates as a specialised academic unit within UNISA, focusing on advanced business education, leadership development, and research-driven teaching. The school offers programmes that align with industry needs, academic research, and open distance learning methodologies. The current recruitment drive covers multiple academic roles across key disciplines including: Economics Strategy Marketing Project Management Supply Chain Management Global Business Academic Appointment Framework UNISA emphasizes that applicants must meet both generic institutional requirements and specific post requirements. The institution retains the right to: Appoint candidates at a different academic level than applied for Offer contract-based appointments depending on institutional needs All academic roles are aligned with UNISA’s Open Distance e-Learning (ODeL) model and require familiarity with digital teaching environments. Teaching Statement Requirements Applicants must submit a teaching statement aligned with UNISA’s academic policies. Two application pathways are provided: Option A: External Applicants / Non-Academic Internal Applicants Applicants are expected to outline their teaching philosophy with reference to: Tuition Policy Open Distance Learning Policy Assessment Policy Curriculum Policy ODL Pedagogy Option B: Internal Academic Applicants Applicants must demonstrate: Experience in open distance learning environments Learner-centred teaching approaches Undergraduate and postgraduate teaching experience Development of study materials (individual or collaborative) Student success rates and improvement strategies Teaching evaluations from peers and students Learner support initiatives A portfolio of evidence may be requested during the interview process. Available Academic Positions UNISA has advertised multiple posts within the Graduate School of Business Leadership. 1. Professor / Associate Professor Roles Positions are available in the following disciplines: Economics Strategy Marketing Project Management Supply Chain Management Key requirements include: Doctoral degree (NQF Level 10) in relevant field Minimum 4–5 years teaching experience (depending on rank) Strong research output aligned with institutional benchmarks Supervision of Master’s and PhD students to completion Evidence of teaching effectiveness and student success rates Engagement in community service and academic leadership Participation in institutional and national academic networks 2. Research and Academic Expectations Candidates applying for senior academic roles must demonstrate: Accredited research output in line with Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) standards Publications in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings Supervision of postgraduate research to completion Active participation in scholarly communities and academic societies Contribution to institutional committees and leadership structures Additional advantages include: NRF rating or application for rating International research collaboration experience Engagement in funded research projects Professional body registration where applicable 3. Distinguished Professor Positions UNISA is also recruiting Distinguished Professors in specialised areas such as: 4IR and Digitalisation Health Leadership and Innovation Women Leadership These roles require: Senior professorial rank with at least five years’ experience National or international research reputation Strong record of external research funding acquisition Leadership of research teams and academic programmes Proven contribution to teaching, research, and institutional service 4. Senior Lecturer Positions Additional roles are available at Senior Lecturer level in: Supply Chain Management Project Management Global Business Requirements include: Doctoral qualification in relevant discipline Minimum three years of teaching or professional experience Supervision of postgraduate students (or equivalent industry experience for non-academics) Evidence of research output Participation in academic committees and institutional service Engagement in community or industry-based projects Recommendations for Applicants UNISA encourages applicants with: Experience in Open Distance e-Learning (ODeL) environments Strong academic citizenship and leadership roles International collaboration exposure Professional accreditation or registration Experience in postgraduate teaching and supervision Application Requirements Applicants must submit a complete application package including: Official application form for permanent academic posts Comprehensive Curriculum Vitae (CV) Certified copies of: Identity document or valid passport Academic qualifications Academic transcripts SAQA verification (for foreign qualifications, if applicable) Teaching statement (as per guidelines) Contact details for three professional referees Applications must be submitted via email and each post must be applied for separately.
