The Fund acts in solidarity with women, girls, and gender-diverse people by moving resources rapidly to address time-sensitive opportunities and challenges affecting their rights and safety. Through a Rapid Response Grantmaking model, UAF–Africa supports innovative, unanticipated, and critical initiatives that strengthen women’s agency in peacebuilding, political participation, economic justice, and natural resource governance. Operating virtually, UAF–Africa maintains physical presence across East, Central, Southern, and West Africa, with hubs in Nairobi, Kampala, Harare, Johannesburg, Douala, Lilongwe, Abuja, and other locations. The Fund mobilises resources from diverse international and local funders to advance women’s rights and feminist agendas across the continent. Position Overview The Feminist Knowledge Leadership Coordinator will lead efforts to consolidate and amplify learning from UAF–Africa’s work and that of its broader constituency—feminist scholars, activists, and women’s rights defenders across Africa. This role will drive UAF–Africa’s Knowledge Leadership Strategy, overseeing the production of feminist knowledge and research that connects theory with lived experience. The Coordinator will ensure that UAF–Africa’s learning, trends analysis, and documentation reflect African feminist perspectives, lived realities, and activist wisdom. Key to this position is the leadership of innovative knowledge projects—such as the African Feminist Republik Registry—and the facilitation of feminist learning spaces that promote collective reflection, documentation, and growth. Key Responsibilities 1. Strategic Knowledge Leadership Lead the development and implementation of UAF–Africa’s Knowledge Leadership Strategy, ensuring alignment with feminist values and organisational priorities. Manage and coordinate the production and dissemination of knowledge products, including reports, publications, and digital content. Oversee planning, staffing, and consultant engagement for knowledge-related projects. Define annual priorities, assess emerging knowledge needs, and track progress across all related initiatives. 2. Research and Documentation Coordinate feminist research projects and publications, ensuring the integration of diverse African perspectives and methodologies. Manage content development, editorial direction, and design of publications and multimedia outputs. Support WHRDs and feminist partners to document their experiences using accessible and secure methods. Develop feminist knowledge tools that amplify activist voices while prioritising security and ethical research standards. 3. Learning, Collaboration, and Integration Facilitate cross-regional learning, peer exchange, and collaborative research among UAF–Africa’s partners and constituencies. Collaborate with internal teams—including Sustaining Defenders, Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL), Communications & Media, and Transformative Partnerships & Philanthropy—to ensure conceptual coherence and knowledge integration. Lead the preparation of Trends Analysis Reports, capturing key patterns in feminist movements and activism across the continent. Coordinate UAF–Africa’s contributions to the UAF Sister Funds and other global feminist research networks. 4. Events and Special Projects Oversee knowledge outputs for the Feminist Republik Platform and contribute to the planning of the Feminist Republik Festival. Support conceptual design, agenda development, and partner engagement for thematic events. Manage consultants, facilitators, and healers involved in special projects and learning spaces. 5. Additional Responsibilities Produce internal and external reports, strategic briefs, and partnership materials. Support UAF–Africa’s outreach and visibility through presentations, press releases, and communication campaigns. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Programmes Director. Qualifications and Experience Academic Background Master’s degree in Social Sciences, Women’s Studies, Political Science, International Development, Law, or a related field. Additional professional training in feminist research, documentation, or knowledge management is an advantage. Professional Experience 7–9 years of experience in feminist research, women’s studies, or gender-focused programme management. At least 2–3 years in a supervisory or coordination role. Demonstrated experience with feminist documentation methodologies and qualitative/participatory research. Strong understanding of African women’s rights movements, social justice, and feminist activism. Familiarity with strategic resourcing for feminist and women’s rights organisations. Proficiency in English; additional fluency in French or Arabic is desirable. Skills in database management, digital communication, and holistic security practices. Core Competencies and Attributes Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and conceptual thinking abilities. Proven leadership and team coordination skills, especially in virtual and multicultural environments. Commitment to feminist values, collective care, and transformative justice. Ability to manage competing priorities, tight deadlines, and dynamic workloads. High integrity, confidentiality, and discretion in managing sensitive information. Proficiency in standard office software and electronic communication tools. Work Environment This is a regional position requiring occasional travel across Africa and internationally.
