The Head of Digital will lead digital strategy and content across the British High Commission Nairobi and the British Embassy Mogadishu. Sitting within the Kenya and Somalia Communications Team, the role is responsible for driving impactful digital outputs across external social media channels and internal communications platforms. Key Roles and Responsibilities 1. Digital Leadership and Strategy Lead digital content creation and channel management across the Kenya and Somalia Communications Team. Develop and implement a comprehensive channel and content strategy for seven official social media platforms. Identify opportunities for innovative, high-impact digital storytelling. 2. Content Oversight and Platform Management Coordinate updates and publishing on GOV.UK, ensuring adherence to the GOV.UK style guide. Manage internal communications channels, including digital screens and staff bulletins. 3. Partnerships and Collaboration Maintain strong relationships with national and regional partner communications teams. Collaborate on joint digital outputs to expand audience reach. 4. Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting Conduct regular monitoring and evaluation across all seven channels. Analyse engagement metrics and audience sentiment. Produce quarterly analytical reports for senior leadership, including the Ambassador. 5. Team and Resource Management Manage two digital communications assistants. Oversee the Communications Team’s equipment inventory, including procurement. Support digital skills development within the wider team (7–8 members), identifying gaps and coordinating upskilling. 6. Crisis Communications Serve as media manager on the crisis roster for both Nairobi and Mogadishu missions. Provide calm, informed digital leadership during crises. 7. Leadership Support Deputise for the Deputy Head of Team and occasionally for the Head of Team as required. Essential Skills and Qualifications Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated experience in media or communications roles. Strong understanding of the social media landscape in Kenya, Somalia, and the broader region. Digital production skills, including photography, videography, and editing software proficiency. Monitoring and evaluation expertise, particularly for META and X platforms. High level of English proficiency (written and spoken). Proven management experience.
