Programme Background WEL is implementing a long-term development programme focused on improving access to financial services, markets, and resources for young people engaged in agriculture. The initiative recognizes that agriculture contributes significantly to Kenya’s economy, employing a large proportion of the workforce, yet remains underutilized by youth due to structural, social, and economic constraints. The programme specifically targets: Financially disadvantaged young people Micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in agriculture Women and youth aged 18–35 Communities in rural, arid, and semi-arid regions The initiative spans six agricultural value chains, including: Dairy Livestock and poultry Fisheries and aquaculture Irish potatoes Pulses Fruits and vegetables The overarching goal is to improve financial inclusion, strengthen SACCO systems, and promote equitable participation of women and youth in agricultural enterprise development. Role Overview: Regional Coordinator – North Rift The Regional Coordinator will play a central role in coordinating implementation activities within the North Rift region, covering Uasin Gishu, Nandi, Baringo, and Trans Nzoia counties. The position requires both strategic and operational engagement with internal teams and external stakeholders. The role involves collaboration with programme management, MEAL teams, communications units, human resources, and operations teams to ensure effective planning, implementation, and monitoring of project activities. Externally, the coordinator will support partnerships with SACCOs, youth groups, and community-based organizations to enhance financial inclusion and strengthen agricultural value chain participation. Key Responsibilities The Regional Coordinator will be responsible for: Supporting implementation of youth and women economic empowerment programmes in the North Rift region. Strengthening SACCO capacity to serve financially disadvantaged youth and women. Designing and supporting gender-responsive financial products and services. Promoting youth and women participation in agricultural value chains. Facilitating training and capacity-building initiatives for local groups and stakeholders. Monitoring project implementation and contributing to reporting and evaluation processes. Supporting advocacy efforts aimed at reducing structural barriers in agricultural finance and enterprise development. The role also requires coordination of field-level engagement activities and ensuring alignment with organizational objectives on gender equality and financial inclusion. Qualifications and Experience Requirements Applicants are expected to meet the following criteria: Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Management, Social Sciences, Social Work, or Development Studies. Additional training in gender development, human rights-based approaches, project management, and monitoring and evaluation is highly desirable. Minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience, preferably within the NGO sector. At least 1 year of field-level experience in program implementation. Experience working in financial inclusion projects is an advantage. Familiarity with SACCO systems, youth programmes, and gender-focused development initiatives. Strong understanding of gender equality, human rights-based programming, and development policy. Candidates should also demonstrate the ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, meet tight deadlines, and operate effectively in multi-cultural and rural contexts.
