Words Without Borders is recruiting an Engagement Editor to strengthen audience growth and digital engagement across its social media platforms. The part-time, remote role is aimed at early-career digital communications professionals passionate about international literature and cultural exchange. About Words Without Borders Founded in 2003, Words Without Borders (WWB) is a literary organization dedicated to promoting global cultural understanding through translated literature. It publishes contemporary international writing and provides readers with access to voices from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds. WWB also runs educational and public engagement initiatives, including: An award-winning digital literary magazine WWB Campus, an education program for classrooms Virtual and in-person literary events Fellowships and grants for emerging literary translators The organization’s mission is to build a global literary community by connecting readers, writers, and translators across borders. About the Engagement Editor Role The Engagement Editor will play a central role in expanding WWB’s digital reach and strengthening engagement with global literature audiences. The position reports to the Marketing and Communications Manager and works closely with editorial, digital, development, and education teams. This role is designed for a creative digital communicator who is interested in literature, storytelling, and audience development. Key Responsibilities Social Media Strategy and Content Creation The Engagement Editor will manage and grow WWB’s presence across platforms such as: Instagram Facebook LinkedIn Bluesky Responsibilities include: Creating and scheduling posts for published literary content and organizational updates Designing graphics, memes, and multimedia content Developing creative engagement campaigns around events, fundraising, and new programs Sharing relevant content from literary and cultural organizations The role requires balancing text, visuals, and video to maximize engagement. Audience Engagement and Community Management The editor will actively engage with WWB’s online community by: Responding to comments and interactions Monitoring social media discussions Encouraging audience participation and sharing Supporting conversations around international literature Analytics and Performance Tracking A key part of the role involves data-driven audience growth, including: Monitoring social media analytics Tracking engagement trends Maintaining reporting spreadsheets Adjusting strategy based on performance insights The Engagement Editor will also help define benchmarks for growth and engagement. Content Systems and Coordination Additional responsibilities include: Maintaining communication databases and contributor contact records Managing an annual communications calendar Collaborating across teams to align messaging and campaigns Required Qualifications WWB is seeking candidates with demonstrated experience in digital engagement and strong editorial skills. Applicants should have: At least one year of professional social media or digital marketing experience Proven success in audience growth or engagement improvement Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills Ability to analyze literature from diverse cultural contexts Experience working independently and collaboratively Candidates must also demonstrate strong time management, initiative, and adaptability in fast-paced environments. Technical and Creative Skills The role requires familiarity with digital content creation tools and platforms, including: Canva, Photoshop, CapCut, or similar design tools Social media analytics tools and reporting systems Basic understanding of audio or multimedia editing (preferred) Experience with project management tools such as Trello or Jira, and familiarity with WordPress or similar CMS platforms, is considered an advantage. Interest in Literature and Global Culture A strong interest in international literature is essential. The organization values candidates who are engaged with global literary communities and aware of translation and publishing trends. Additional language skills or cultural expertise are considered a strong asset. Work Structure and Compensation Position Details Role: Engagement Editor Type: Part-time (20 hours per week) Location: Remote Core Hours: Must overlap with 11am–3pm Eastern Time Eligibility: Must have permission to work in the United States Compensation Salary range: USD $20,000–$24,000 per year (DOE) Generous paid time off Flexible remote working structure Applicants may choose either a Monday–Thursday or Monday–Friday schedule.
