Description

The World Bank Group (WBG) has officially launched applications for the 2027 Africa Fellowship Program, inviting outstanding PhD candidates and recent PhD graduates from Sub-Saharan Africa to apply for a prestigious six-month fellowship designed to develop the next generation of African development professionals and researchers. Announced on 15 July 2026, the fellowship offers selected participants the opportunity to gain hands-on experience at the World Bank Group’s headquarters in Washington, D.C., or one of its country offices. The programme aims to strengthen Africa’s research and policymaking capacity while contributing to sustainable development, poverty reduction, and shared prosperity across the continent. The World Bank Group has also encouraged women researchers to submit applications. Building Africa’s Next Generation of Development Leaders The Africa Fellowship Program targets highly talented young African scholars who are either completing their doctoral studies or have recently earned a PhD in disciplines relevant to the World Bank’s work.
