The 2026 call focuses specifically on innovations with potential for implementation in the Dominican Republic, El Salvador and Peru. Both low-tech and high-tech solutions are eligible, provided they address identified climate adaptation challenges and demonstrate potential for meaningful scale and impact. About the Programme The AFCIA programme seeks to identify and support innovative solutions responding to increasing climate-related threats such as droughts, floods, storms, rising temperatures, environmental degradation and disruptions to food production. Through the programme, selected innovators will receive opportunities to develop and test their solutions, strengthen partnerships and access WFP’s innovation ecosystem. The initiative also promotes climate adaptation, gender equity, inclusive economic opportunities, youth engagement and community resilience. The programme is particularly interested in innovations that can contribute to sustainable solutions for vulnerable populations while strengthening local and regional climate adaptation capacity. Priority Areas The call has different priority areas for each participating country. Dominican Republic Priority areas include: Climate-responsive support and delivery solutions Localized climate information generation Hazard monitoring and early warning systems Anticipatory financing and delivery solutions El Salvador Priority areas include: Disaster risk management Climate-smart agricultural advisory services Climate and market intelligence Post-harvest loss reduction Peru Priority areas include: Market and climate information Climate risk financing Scalable early-warning communication channels Water management solutions Applicants should consult the official call documentation for the complete list of priority areas and country-specific requirements. Eligibility Requirements Applicants must meet several core requirements to qualify for consideration. The applicant must be an established legal entity, such as a for-profit company, nonprofit organization, social business, NGO or INGO. The organization must also have a presence in one of the three implementation countries: Dominican Republic, El Salvador or Peru. This may include a country office, subsidiary, permanent operations, long-term presence or an established partnership in the relevant country. The proposed innovation must: Address at least one of the identified climate adaptation priority areas. Be at least at the seed stage. Demonstrate a clear pathway toward scale. Have adequate resources and an implementation plan for the nine-month Sprint. Show willingness to collaborate with humanitarian stakeholders and relevant country offices. Engage with local innovation ecosystems. Solutions that remain at the idea, research or early pre-seed stage are not eligible. Evaluation Criteria Applications will be assessed according to several factors, including the level of innovation, contextual relevance, financial sustainability and scalability, team expertise, climate adaptation impact and overall potential for long-term impact. Applicants should demonstrate that their solutions are innovative while also being practical and relevant to the needs of intended users. The evaluation will also consider whether the proposed solution: Improves resilience to climate impacts. Promotes sustainable practices and resource efficiency. Has demonstrated or projected measurable impact. Can continue generating impact beyond the funding period. Meets the Adaptation Fund’s environmental and social principles. Addresses gender and inclusion considerations. Uses disaggregated data and user feedback to improve design and impact. A strong and sustainable business or revenue model is particularly important for solutions seeking to demonstrate scalability. Application Process Applications must be submitted online in English by 6 September 2026 at 11:59 p.m. UTC. The programme plans to select approximately 10–12 successful applicants in November 2026. Selected innovators will be invited to an innovation bootcamp in January 2027. Following the bootcamp, participating teams will have the opportunity to apply for the Sprint programme, through which selected innovators will receive funding and tailored support to implement or scale their solutions.
