The World Uyghur Congress (WUC) is inviting applications for the position of Advocacy Officer – UN & Multilateral Engagement, offering experienced human rights professionals the opportunity to lead international advocacy initiatives from its headquarters in Munich, Germany. This full-time, open-ended position is ideal for candidates with expertise in human rights, United Nations mechanisms, policy advocacy, and multilateral engagement who are passionate about advancing international justice and human rights. The successful candidate will join the WUC’s dynamic advocacy team and play a central role in representing the organisation before the United Nations, governments, parliaments, and international civil society coalitions. About the World Uyghur Congress The World Uyghur Congress is an international umbrella organisation dedicated to promoting democracy, human rights, freedom, and the rule of law for the Uyghur people through peaceful and non-violent advocacy. Operating internationally, the organisation engages with the United Nations, European Union institutions, national governments, multilateral organisations, and global civil society to advance awareness and accountability regarding Uyghur human rights. With offices in Munich, Berlin, Brussels, and Istanbul, the WUC coordinates international campaigns, policy engagement, research, and advocacy initiatives aimed at strengthening international responses to human rights issues. Position Overview The Advocacy Officer – UN & Multilateral Engagement will be responsible for coordinating the organisation’s international advocacy strategy, with particular emphasis on engagement with UN human rights institutions and other multilateral bodies. Beyond advocacy, the officer will oversee project implementation, donor-funded initiatives, grant reporting, strategic communications, and internal coordination to ensure the effective delivery of WUC programmes. The role requires excellent research, writing, public speaking, organisational, and project management skills, together with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced international environment. Key Responsibilities The successful candidate will contribute across four major areas of responsibility. Advocacy and International Representation Lead and coordinate advocacy initiatives targeting UN institutions and multilateral organisations. Represent the World Uyghur Congress before governments, parliamentary bodies, and international civil society coalitions. Deliver public speeches, policy briefings, oral statements, and high-level presentations. Build and strengthen relationships with diaspora communities, partner organisations, media, and advocacy networks. Research, Communications and Publications Draft advocacy reports, policy briefs, statements, and public communications. Prepare and submit reports to UN human rights mechanisms, including Treaty Bodies and the Universal Periodic Review (UPR). Respond to media and stakeholder enquiries. Conduct policy and human rights research to support evidence-based advocacy positions. Project and Grant Management Coordinate implementation of donor-funded advocacy projects. Monitor project budgets and ensure compliance with grant requirements. Prepare donor reports and project documentation. Organise internal meetings, stakeholder briefings, conferences, and advocacy events. Team Coordination and Operations Support the advocacy team’s workflow and organisational priorities. Assist with office coordination, scheduling, calendars, and internal administrative procedures. Ensure smooth implementation of advocacy activities across departments. Required Qualifications and Experience The World Uyghur Congress is seeking a motivated professional with strong advocacy experience and a commitment to international human rights. Essential qualifications include: Minimum 2 years of experience in human rights advocacy, policy, or a related field. Strong knowledge of the United Nations human rights system. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated public speaking and presentation experience. University degree (Master’s degree is an advantage). Strong organisational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities. Ability to work independently while managing multiple deadlines. Willingness to travel internationally on a regular basis. Knowledge of the Uyghur human rights situation or broader human rights issues in China is considered a significant advantage. Additional assets include experience with grant management, donor reporting, project management platforms such as Monday.com, Microsoft Office, and social media platforms including X, Instagram, Facebook, BlueSky, and LinkedIn. Language Requirements Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Additional language skills are highly desirable, particularly: German French Uyghur Turkish Mandarin Other relevant international languages Multilingual candidates will have an advantage when engaging with diverse international stakeholders and advocacy networks.
