The Young and Emerging Leaders Project (YELP) 2026 Fellowship, offered by LéO Africa Institute in partnership with Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, is now open for applications. Entering its seventh year, the fellowship continues to build a strong network of purpose-driven leaders across the African continent. The programme is designed to support individuals who are actively shaping their communities and industries through leadership, innovation, and creativity. Programme Overview and Vision The YELP Fellowship is more than a leadership programme; it is a long-term community that nurtures individuals committed to meaningful impact. Participants engage in deep reflection, learning, and collaboration, equipping them to lead with purpose and integrity. The fellowship brings together a diverse cohort of: Entrepreneurs Media professionals Social innovators Artists and creatives Activists and change-makers Its central goal is to cultivate values-based leadership that contributes to sustainable development and transformation across Africa. Fellowship Structure and Learning Experience The YELP 2026 Fellowship is structured around three immersive residential seminars. Each seminar focuses on a critical dimension of leadership and societal engagement. 1. Values, Ethics and the Philosophy of Leadership This seminar focuses on personal leadership foundations, helping fellows explore: Identity and self-awareness Ethical decision-making Purpose-driven leadership Personal values and convictions Participants are encouraged to reflect deeply on what defines their leadership journey. 2. Political Economy and Development The second seminar introduces fellows to the broader systems shaping African societies. Key areas include: Economic and political structures across Africa Development frameworks and challenges Policy environments and decision-making processes The role of leadership within complex systems This module equips fellows with the analytical tools needed to navigate and influence societal systems. 3. Media, Art and Technology The final seminar explores the power of storytelling and innovation in shaping narratives and change. Focus areas include: Media influence and communication strategies Role of art and culture in leadership Technology as a driver of transformation Building and controlling narratives Participants gain insight into how ideas and stories shape societies and leadership impact. Community and Network The YELP Fellowship has built a strong alumni network spanning multiple African countries. Fellows become part of an ongoing community of leaders, gaining access to: Cross-sector collaboration opportunities Mentorship and peer learning Regional and continental networks Continued engagement beyond the fellowship This network is a defining feature of the programme, offering long-term value beyond the seminars. Eligibility Criteria The fellowship is open to young Africans from diverse backgrounds who demonstrate a commitment to leadership and impact. Applicants should meet the following criteria: Aged between 21 and 35 years Based in or originating from Africa From any professional, academic, or creative field Demonstrated commitment to personal growth and leadership Passion for contributing to community and continental development The programme values diversity and encourages applications from individuals across different sectors and disciplines.
