Soul City Institute opens applications for FLAC Fellowship Cohort 3 Young women across Southern Africa are being invited to apply for the 2026 Feminist Leadership Accelerator for Change (FLAC) Fellowship, a 12-month leadership development programme designed to strengthen feminist leadership, activism, and community-driven social change. The fellowship, launched by the Soul City Institute for Social Justice (SCI), aims to create a powerful network of young women committed to challenging inequality, advancing human rights, and building more just societies. Applications are now open for Cohort 3, with the deadline set for 27 July 2026. A leadership programme designed for young feminist changemakers The Feminist Leadership Accelerator for Change (FLAC) is described as a transformational learning and co-creation space that supports young African women in developing the knowledge, confidence, and skills needed to lead social change. Through immersive learning, peer engagement, and practical community projects, fellows are encouraged to deepen their understanding of feminist principles while developing solutions to challenges affecting women and communities. The programme focuses on building leaders who can challenge harmful systems, promote gender equality, and advocate for the rights and dignity of all women. Key goals of the FLAC Fellowship include: Building feminist consciousness among young women leaders Strengthening activism and community organising skills Supporting women to create meaningful social impact Developing lifelong networks of feminist changemakers Fellowship curriculum covers gender, justice, advocacy and leadership During the 12-month programme, fellows will participate in a series of learning modules covering important social justice themes. The curriculum combines personal reflection, leadership development, communication skills, and practical action planning. The programme modules include: Gender and Healing: Childhood Conditioning and Recovery Feminism 101: African Feminist Epistemology and Decolonial Thought Communications and Media: Photo-Voice and Feminist Storytelling Feminist Activism and Movement Building Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) and Sexual and Reproductive Justice Feminist Leadership: Power, Ethics and Practice Economic and Climate Justice through a Feminist Lens Advocacy Campaigns and Digital Strategy Community Accelerator Project (CAP): Design and Implementation Job Readiness and Professional Development Through these sessions, participants will gain both theoretical knowledge and practical tools to support feminist movements and community initiatives. Who can apply for the FLAC Fellowship 2026? The fellowship is open to young women who meet specific eligibility requirements. Applicants must: Hold at least a high school certificate, diploma, or undergraduate degree Be between 19 and 25 years old at the time of application Self-identify as a woman, including all individuals who identify as such Demonstrate commitment to social justice and feminist values Live in South Africa, Lesotho, Eswatini, Botswana, or Zimbabwe Applicants with experience in community leadership, activism, or women’s rights advocacy will be strongly considered. Young women from rural communities and applicants with disabilities are particularly encouraged to apply. Required documents include: A curriculum vitae (CV) of no more than three pages, including an example of leadership demonstrated in community or personal life A motivation letter explaining interest in the fellowship and summarising activism or community involvement A two-to-three-minute motivation video outlining passion for social justice and future goals Two recommendation letters from community representatives who can confirm the applicant’s commitment and work ethic One reference letter from a former high school teacher or tertiary lecturer confirming leadership involvement during studies Recommendation letters must include the recommender’s name, position, contact details, and relationship to the applicant. Applications close on 27 July 2026 Eligible young women who wish to become part of FLAC Cohort 3 must submit their applications through the official online application platform before the deadline. Applicants are encouraged to prepare their supporting documents carefully and highlight their leadership journeys, community involvement, and vision for creating positive change.
