Instead, the programme encourages organisations to demonstrate how they are introducing meaningful improvements, adapting approaches or expanding solutions to address challenges within their communities. Eligible organisations may propose projects that involve: Designing and testing a new activity, service or approach. Adapting and piloting a solution that has demonstrated success elsewhere. Scaling an existing and proven initiative to reach additional communities or geographic areas. Improving an existing programme based on evidence, community feedback, research or lessons learned. The programme seeks practical and locally relevant solutions that can contribute to sustainable development and respond effectively to the realities faced by young people. Priority Areas and Intersectional Approaches The grants particularly encourage applicants to consider the different and overlapping factors that influence young people’s experiences and opportunities. These may include unemployment, access to education, gender, disability, socioeconomic circumstances, geographic location and other lived experiences. An intersectional approach can help organisations understand how multiple forms of disadvantage may interact and affect young people differently. Projects that demonstrate a strong understanding of these realities and provide inclusive, locally appropriate solutions are therefore encouraged. The programme will also prioritise initiatives led by marginalised groups and young women, creating opportunities for underrepresented young people to take leadership roles in developing solutions for their communities. Eligibility Requirements The call is open to formally registered youth-led nonprofit organisations with a clear social mission. Eligible entities may include: Non-governmental organisations Civil society organisations Trusts Community-based organisations Other formally registered nonprofit entities meeting the programme’s requirements A key requirement is that organisations must be genuinely youth-led. Young people aged 18 to 35 must hold primary decision-making power and play a central role in the organisation’s governance and activities. Applicants must also be based and formally registered in one of the programme’s 12 African Youth Action Lab focus countries. Eligible countries are: Ethiopia Kenya Mozambique Nigeria Senegal Sierra Leone Somalia, specifically the Somaliland region Tanzania Tunisia Uganda Zambia Zimbabwe Proposed activities must be implemented in one or more of these eligible countries. Grant Amount and Project Duration Successful organisations can receive up to €42,000 for a 12-month innovation project. The implementation period is scheduled to run from January through December 2027. Beyond financial assistance, selected organisations will have opportunities to exchange knowledge, showcase their solutions and connect with youth actors, decision-makers and other stakeholders working across Africa and Europe.
