The organisation is grounded in radical and bold African feminist perspectives that centre bodily autonomy and integrity, intersectional feminist transformational leadership, and strong advocacy for the sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) of adolescent girls, young women, and persons with diverse abilities. Zamara Foundation’s work is primarily implemented in Nairobi, Kwale, and Kilifi counties. Its core values are deeply rooted in African feminist principles, collective leadership, accountability to communities, and transformative social change. Role Overview The Program Manager is a senior leadership position responsible for providing strategic, programmatic, and operational leadership across Zamara Foundation’s portfolio. Working closely with the Executive Director, the Program Manager will ensure the delivery of high-quality feminist programming, robust monitoring, evaluation, accountability and learning (MEAL) systems, effective donor engagement, and strong representation of the organisation in advocacy and movement spaces. This role sits at the intersection of program management, feminist leadership development, fundraising support, organisational learning, and external representation. Key Responsibilities 1. Program Strategy, Leadership, and Management Lead the design, implementation, coordination, monitoring, and growth of Zamara Foundation’s programs in alignment with feminist values and strategic priorities. Develop and oversee annual and project-specific work plans, budgets, timelines, reports, and deliverables. Supervise, mentor, and support program staff, consultants, and volunteers, fostering a culture of care, accountability, and collective leadership. Work closely with the Executive Director to translate Zamara’s feminist vision into coherent, impactful, and sustainable programming. Ensure effective risk management, safeguarding, and ethical program delivery. 2. Feminist Leadership Development and Community Engagement Lead and facilitate trainings under the Zamara Foundation Intersectional Feminist Transformational Leadership Institute (ZaFLI). Accompany and support adolescent girls’ and young women-led innovative social change initiatives emerging from ZaFLI. Facilitate and sustain safe and brave spaces for adolescent girls and young women within program areas. Strengthen the capacity of adolescent girls and young women to meaningfully engage in county and national gender, SRHR, and child marriage policy spaces. Build strategic collaborations with feminist and like-minded initiatives and communities in support of Zamara’s strategic outcomes. 3. Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) Design and implement feminist MEAL frameworks that prioritise learning, reflection, and accountability to communities. Track program outputs, outcomes, lessons learned, and impact using ethical and participatory data collection approaches. Produce high-quality narrative and donor reports highlighting achievements, challenges, and learning. Use evidence and learning to adapt programs and strengthen organisational strategy. 4. Fundraising and Donor Engagement Contribute to resource mobilisation through proposal development, concept notes, and donor reporting. Manage donor-funded projects in compliance with grant agreements and approved budgets. Support donor relationship management in close collaboration with the Executive Director. 5. Partnerships, Advocacy, and Representation Represent Zamara Foundation in meetings, coalitions, and advocacy spaces at county, national, and regional levels. Build and sustain strategic partnerships with feminist movements, civil society organisations, and government stakeholders. Engage county and national government structures to influence policies advancing SRHR and gender justice. 6. Communications and Knowledge Production Contribute to blogs, articles, and thought leadership pieces to strengthen Zamara Foundation’s public voice and visibility. Support digital campaigns and communications platforms, including the website and social media. Support the design and delivery of online and offline advocacy campaigns that challenge anti-gender narratives. Required Qualifications and Experience Bachelor’s degree in Women’s and Gender Studies, Community Development, Social Sciences, or a related field. Minimum of seven years’ experience in program management within feminist, human rights, or social justice organisations. Demonstrated experience in feminist leadership development, SRHR, or movement-building. Proven skills in proposal writing, donor reporting, and budget management. Experience designing and implementing MEAL systems. Strong facilitation, writing, public speaking, and relationship-building skills. Ability to work in the field, under pressure, and to tight deadlines. Willingness to travel and work flexible hours when required. Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work effectively with diverse groups of adolescent girls and young women.
